Unity is a positive, practical, progressive approach to Christianity based on the teachings of Jesus and the power of prayer. Unity honors the universal truths in all religions and respects each individual's right to choose a spiritual path.
God is Spirit, the loving source of all that is. God is the one power, all good, everywhere equally present, and all wisdom. God is divine energy, continually creating, expressing and sustaining all creation. In God, we live and move and have our being. In Unity, some other ways we speak of God are Life, Light, Love, Substance, Principle, Law and Universal Mind.
We believe that Jesus expressed his divine potential and sought to show humankind how to express ours as well. We see Jesus as a master teacher of universal truths and as our Way Shower. Jesus is the great example of the Christ in expression. He represents our I Am, which is our God nature.
In Unity, we use the term Christ to mean the divinity in humankind. It is God expressing through us as the great partnership. The Christ living within us is the one complete idea of perfect human expression in Divine Mind. It is the true, spiritual, higher self of every individual. Each of us has the Christ within, just as Jesus did. By continually unifying ourselves with the Highest by our thoughts and words, we express God into our lives.
Unity co-founders, Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, studied the Bible as history and allegory, and interpreted it as a metaphysical representation of humankind's evolutionary journey toward spiritual awakening. In addition, Unity recognizes that the Bible is a complex collection of writings compiled over many centuries. We honor the writings as reflecting the understanding and inspiration of the writers at the time they were written. The Bible continues to be a valuable spiritual resource for us. With our metaphysical teaching, the Bible becomes a map or the best how-to book to use our thinking and feeling nature to live our happiest and best life.
Unity teaches that each person is a unique expression of God created with sacred worth. Living from that awareness transforms our lives, world and affairs. Unity emphasizes the creative power of thought in our life experience. We refer to this as the Law of Mind Action. When we take personal responsibility to choose life affirming thoughts, words and actions, we experience a more fulfilling and abundant life.
The systematic study of the science of Being; that which transcends (is beyond) the physical. By pure metaphysics is meant a clear understanding of the realm of ideas and their legitimate expression. By looking at the Bible metaphysically, people, places, and other things represent different parts of our thinking and feeling nature..
Affirmative prayer is the highest form of creative thought. It includes the release of counterproductive, negative thoughts as well as holding in mind statements of spiritual truth. Through meditation, we experience the presence of God. Prayer and meditation heighten our awareness and thereby transform our lives. It is helpful to think of Prayer as speaking to God, and Meditation as listening to God.
We are each individual, eternal expressions of God. Our essential nature is divine and therefore inherently good. Our purpose is to express our divine potential as realized and demonstrated by Jesus and other master teachers. The more we awaken to our divine nature, the more fully God expresses in and through our lives.
In Unity, we feel a sacred responsibility, individually and collectively, to make a positive difference through personal example and active service in our churches, our communities and our world.

We honor inclusiveness because we believe all people, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity, the color of their skin, their abilities, and their particular religious perspectives are spiritual beings having a human experience. It is that bandwidth of inclusiveness that makes us not only a gathering place for spiritual growth but a sanctuary for human rights.
We stand for peace in the presence of conflict; for love in the presence of hatred; for forgiveness in the presence of injury; inclusiveness in the presence of diversity. Unity respects people’s right to choose their particular faith tradition. We believe in freedom for people in matters of faith. The essence of spirituality, as well as religion, is a higher consciousness of the Eternal Presence called God.
We believe there are seeds of truth in all the world’s religions. Different faith traditions are like spokes on a wheel with the hub being Universal peace and oneness. The different faith traditions may be set apart by a variance of beliefs and approaches, different shades of theological interpretation, and a variety of rites and practices, but they are all seeking the One God (the One Presence, the One Reality) at the center of all life.
We honor all faith traditions to the degree that they do not injure others, infringe upon interfaith spiritual and religious rites and practices, or attempt to force their theology on others. We believe we are all expressions of the One Reality we call God. We believe that when everyone honors their Divine Nature and the Divine Nature within others that there will be world peace, oneness, and universal love.
We urge all nations, their leaders, and their people to turn to this Universal Presence by whatever name they ascribe to It for guidance during these challenging times and pursue peace, not war, for this is what honors the Universal Source of all our faith traditions.
