The Kids Spirit Group is designed to introduce children to spiritual principles through interactive and age-appropriate lessons and play. The lessons focus on growth mindset, seeing the good within others and ourselves, and living a life of love, peace, and compassion.
2025 follows the theme of Living Fruitfully, expressed through the question, "How Does Your Garden Grow?"
Here are some additional recurring programs offered for kids this year:
Life Skills for Kids
Life Skills Workshops teach valuable skills like public speaking, crochet, and songwriting. These hands-on workshops foster self-expression, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence.
Service Project Sundays
Focusing on a theme of animals for 2025, we'll be writing thank-you cards for volunteers, assembling pet supplies for local shelters, collecting enrichment items for tigers, sponsoring our own endangered animal, and more!
Family Sundays
On 5th Sundays & special occasions, youth and young adults bring fresh energy to the service by stepping into leadership roles. From multi-generational services to full youth takeovers, these Sundays celebrate the voices of all ages and highlight the creativity and leadership within our spiritual community.

Our kids program is small, but mighty in 2024. This means dedicated attention and personalization of the program each week.
Our Goals of 2024
Empowering Kids
At Unity, we teach that everyone has the power in them to achieve their dreams and align with Spirit. This means self-empowerment is built into everything we do. Even our youngest kids are encouraged to be themselves and grow, from shining their light in our youth rooms to taking to the stage on Youth Takeover Sundays.
Creating Space
In 2024, we set a goal of transforming our multipurpose classroom into a more youth friendly space, regardless of how many kids were there to see it. We brought in kid sized furniture and lined the wall with shelves full of toys, books, and craft supplies.
Grown Up Involvement
We set a goal for more parent/guardian involvement and changed our event focus to more family and multigenerational events so grown ups and kids can be present together. Program communication increased to a monthly email and weekly text reminders about upcoming youth events.
FAQ
What Does Sunday Look Like?
- Starting Together: All youth start in the Sanctuary with their grown ups. We'll help you get them signed in there. About five minutes into service, the youth are blessed and released to their spaces with our adult volunteers and staff.
- Opening Prayer and Affirmation Cards: The session begins with a prayer, setting a calm and focused tone. Children choose affirmation cards that encourage positive thinking and self-empowerment, aligning with Unity's belief that thoughts and words shape our perception of reality.
- Storytelling and Books: Stories help illustrate Unity's core teaching that we are all interconnected and that love and compassion toward others are expressions of our divinity. Stories also encourage children to show up in the world as their best and kindest selves.
- Discussion and Application: After storytelling, the children engage in discussions to explore how the stories relate to their lives. These conversations tie directly into Unity teachings about self-awareness, kindness, and the importance of community.
- Active Participation: Lessons often incorporate activities like games or creative play, reinforcing the idea that learning can be an engaging and hands-on experience. This aspect of the program fosters a deeper connection to Unity's belief in the joyful expression of life.
- Closing Prayer: Each session concludes with a prayer, bringing the children back into a reflective state and helping them internalize the values and lessons they've explored during the session.
- Pick Up: Children must be picked up in their classroom by their grown up after service.
What Should My Kid Wear?
We are a "come as you are" community. Our kids get to play and craft, so dress them appropriately for those activities.
What Is Your Safety Process?
Each parent/guardian is asked to check in their kids at the iPad near the Sanctuary. New visitors will be asked for a grown up name and contact information as well. Parents/guardians are asked to stay aware of their phone should they need to be contacted during service for any reason. After service, the grown up who checked in their children must pick up their children in the classroom, unless they have made arrangements with the Youth Education Team for a different, approved adult to pick them up.
All of our volunteers and staff complete an annual background check. Many work in local schools and colleges as well. We have a 1:7 adult to youth ratio and no fewer than two adults in our interconnected youth suite during program times.
First aid kits are available in the youth classrooms. We do not administer medication except in life-saving cases where the medication is provided by the parent/guardian (Epi-Pen/Inhaler).
My Kid Has Allergies or Needs Accommodations
We will do our best to accommodate your child's needs and allergies. Please provide at least a week's notice (or more for more involved accommodations) so we have time to make arrangements and communicate with our team.
Some things to know ahead of time:
- We serve pre-packaged snacks in the youth rooms and Unity in Greensboro offers a potluck breakfast each week. We do not serve snacks containing peanuts in the youth rooms. Our donated snack selection typically includes nut, dairy, or gluten free options as well as vegan options. We can guide your child to select from the options that meet their needs. For severe reactions, please notify us in advance.
- Our wing of the building is over 50 years old, with other wings dating 100 years. We have two stair free doors in the back courtyard and an elevator available all the way down the hall from our rooms. A few shared wheelchairs are provided by our landlord and can be found in the downstairs stairwell to help with the distance. Unity in Greensboro does not own the building; therefore, these are the only building related mobility options we can offer at this time.
- Parents/guardians of children who need extra support may attend youth programs with their children as their designated caregiver. We do not currently have the capacity to offer buddy or interpretation programs, although this is a goal we are working towards being able to offer in the future.
- Task-trained service dogs are always welcome.
- If you would tell your kid's school about it, then please consider telling us. This includes learning disabilities, mental health, etc. You can even let us know your child's preferences and best practices to help them have a good time. Information is shared on a need-to-know basis and only with those directly serving your child.
- Places of worship are exempt from ADA; however, we do our best to meet as many needs as we can within our capacity because we believe everyone deserves a safe, welcoming, and accessible space to explore spirituality.
The best way to let us know about your child's needs is to pre-register them and include their needs in the medical information section. If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out to us.
Will Your Group Get Bigger?
We know it will! Group bonding is a big part of Kids Spirit Group and while we miss many of our kids from last school year, we know they're exploring life more deeply in the middle school group now. In the meantime, we focus on our kids who are here, knowing that they deserve all the love, attention, and fun we can give them. Ministry ebbs and flows as kids grow up, and we fully expect additional families to get involved as the school year continues.

Sign up to volunteer with our Kids Spirit Group and serve in the classroom approximately once per month. Training and curriculum provided.
Drop off kid-friendly, shelf-stable snacks anytime. No nuts, please. Allergy friendly and healthy options always appreciated.
Help us build our library, keep supplies fully stocked, and decorate our Kids room.
